Focus Group Discussion on Addiction Prevention

by Katarzyna Wojtyczka

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of participating — as a non-governmental organization working locally to support mental health — in a focus group meeting on addiction-related issues in the Myślenice Municipality. The meeting brought together representatives of the local government, hospital, school counselors, and other specialists.

The aim of the meeting was to exchange ideas and strategies for the prevention and counteraction of addictions — both chemical (alcohol, drugs, nicotine) and behavioral, such as addiction to the Internet, smartphones, or gambling. These issues represent some of the most pressing challenges in today’s public health and social policy — including at the local level.

In this context, we had the opportunity to present our prevention program “A Driving License for Parents” as well as upcoming educational initiatives in schools, focusing on smartphone and social media addiction. Our proposals received a great deal of interest — which shows how urgently concrete action is needed in this area.

We thank all participants for their substantive and open dialogue, and we look forward to further cooperation in promoting mental health in our local community.
